Moving to Las Vegas

I started playing poker when I was 16. Since then poker has either supplemented my income or it has been my sole income. In 2002 I discovered online poker and by 2003 I was playing full time as my only source of income. By then I had gotten married and started a family. While I had always had dreams of moving to Las Vegas to play poker full time my wife always thought that was a ridiculous idea. No matter how successful I was at online poker and home games she stuck by her stereotype "Las Vegas is no place to raise a family". Her conservative family always seemed to frown upon my poker life and I could see some of that in her.
About four years ago we moved from Georgia where there are no casinos to South Dakota where gambling is almost everywhere you look. This softened my wife up a bit about how gambling seemed somewhat normal. I have done quite well in the poker rooms in Deadwood but the games are drying up. The combination of Colorado raising bet limits and the locals knowing what kind of player I am have hurt my action up there. On top of this most of the casinos in Deadwood have labeled me an advantage player so most of the +EV casino promotions have been taken away from me. It was becoming evident to me that it was time to move on.
My wife is sick of the winters in South Dakota and so she agreed to at least entertain the idea of moving to Las Vegas. I took my wife there about 6 weeks ago and she fell in love with a suburb called Summerlin. It is a planned community in the far west side near Red Rock Casino. We started looking at the devastated housing market and found quite a few opportunities in great areas for kids. We finally found a good deal on a house we both liked and after the typical negotiating hassle we got it under contract. We close three weeks from today.
While I will miss so many of the great people I have met here I'm also excited and ready to move on to the next chapter of our lives. My kids are excited, my wife is excited and I'm ready to go grind out B&M poker with the grumpy old men at the Omaha8 and Stud8 tables. Yes, I really play those "blue hair" games.
I will still be working for PAS on certain projects such as the blog, certain support issues and content. There may also be a bigger project in my future. Feel free to contact me about anything you need for PAS and I will be happy to help or get your inquiry to the person that can. In the meantime wish me luck on my gamble in the Las Vegas housing market and in the poker rooms.
