Setting Up Email for Your Rakeback Site
Note
This tutorial only applies to publishers who own their own domain.
So you’ve got a new domain for your rakeback site, and you want to be able to send and receive emails from you@yourdomain.com. Here’s a quick overview on how to set that up.
First, you need to sign up with Google Apps Standard Edition. Click on ‘Get Started’ and we’ll follow the process.
On the first page, you’ll click the radio button that reads ‘Administrator’, and enter your domain name.
Click ‘Get Started’.
Fill out the required information and click ‘Continue’.
Set up your administator account. The username you enter here will create your main email address for your domain. Google Apps Standard Edition allows you to have up to 50 email addresses associated with your domain for free. Once your account is set up, you can add additional custom addresses through your admin account.
Read the Terms and Conditions, then click ‘I Accept. Continue with set up’.
The next step is to activate your account. To do this, select ‘Upload an HTML file to yourdomain.com’.
Google will then supply a code for you to use so that they can verify that you are the owner of the domain. Go into your PAS CMS. There’s already a googlehostedservice.html file conveniently located in your list of files. Simply replace the comment there with the code from Google, and save the page.
Go back to the Google Apps sign up, and click on ‘I’ve completed the steps above.’
The next page will give you the option to read the Google Apps Setup Guide. Skip this for now; you can always review it later.
You’ll see the Google Apps Service Settings page. Under email, click on ‘Activate email’. The next page contains instructions on how to set up MX (mail) records. PAS has already handled this for you, so just click on ‘I have completed these steps’ to continue.
You will be returned to the Service Settings page. Google will then proceed to check the MX records for your domain. As is stated on the page, this can take up to 48 hours to complete, but is usually much quicker.
Once Google has verified your MX records, your email account will be active. The default link to your account will look something like http://mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.com.
